Core Areas Of Instruction
All Camp Fern counselors must be able to teach classes in one or more of our core areas of instruction. All counselors will attend staff development where they will be taught the skills needed to be successful in these areas.
Waterfront:
Includes Swimming, Life Guarding, Canoeing, Kayaking, Sailing, Water Skiing, Boat Driving, and teaching Swim Lessons
English Horseback Riding:
Includes barn classes, trail rides, flatwork, jumping, games, grooming and general horse care
Nature/Outdoor Education:
Includes fire building, open flame cooking, camp/bush craft, lashing, knot-tying, plant/tree identification, environmental education, orienteering, fishing, animal identification, and astronomy
Sports:
Includes high and low elements challenge course, riflery, archery, trampoline, team sports, cheerleading, gymnastics, and weightlifting
Arts/Crafts:
Includes pottery, painting, leather work, jewelry, glass beads, drama, dance
Special Jobs & Internships: (available upon request for specific activities)
Assistant Director, Daily Activities Coordinator, Evening Activities Coordinator, Worship Leader, Department Head Positions (see above), Digital Photography, Videography, Journalism, Van Driver, Scrapbooking
